Lima, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is inviting the public to a meeting to discuss three major projects aimed at improving safety along the U.S. 30 and U.S. 224 corridors in northwest Van Wert County. The meeting will provide crucial information about the upcoming construction and offer residents an opportunity to give input on the projects.

The meeting will begin with a short presentation, followed by an open house where attendees can review project exhibits and speak with project team members. Safety Projects Address Critical Intersection Crashes
ODOT completed a comprehensive Feasibility Study in 2022 to assess safety along the U.S. 30 corridor. Between 2016 and 2022, eight fatal crashes occurred at intersections within the corridor, highlighting the need for improvements. As a result of the study, three projects are now moving forward with funding from the Ohio Highway Safety Improvement Program.
Project 1: U.S. 30/State Route 49 Restricted Crossing U-Turns (RCUT)

- Details: Two intersections will be converted to restricted crossing U-turns (RCUT), including U.S. 30 and SR 49/Payne Road, and U.S. 30 and Convoy-Heller Road. Access at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Dixon-Cavett Road will also be modified.

Project 3: U.S. 224/Lincoln Highway Roundabout Installation

- Details: A single-lane roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of U.S. 224 and Lincoln Highway. Additionally, the U.S. 224 bridge over the Chicago, Ft. Wayne, & Eastern (CFE) railroad will be rehabilitated, including deck and abutment replacements, along with painting of the structural steel.
