Mother and three children hospitalized after Dayton fire

Dayton, Ohio – A wind-driven fire at a duplex on Kenwood Avenue on Thursday morning resulted in the hospitalization of a mother and three children.

Fire officials said the fire significantly spread due to high winds.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a structure at around 10 a.m. on Kenwood Avenue, east of Salem Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames coming out of the residence.

As the fire spread, firefighters had to evacuate the duplex just as the flames began to reach the roof.

People inside the structure were able to leave their residences safely, except for four people, a mother and three children, who had to be transported to a hospital for treatment of burn injuries. According to the latest known information, both of them are in stable condition.

Fire crews sprayed water on surrounding residences in order to keep the fire from spreading.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
