Dayton, Ohio – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging residents to safely dispose of unused or expired medications during the upcoming National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, an event aimed at protecting both the community and the environment.
Officials announced that the event will take place on April 25, 2026, giving residents a convenient opportunity to clear out unwanted medications from their homes while ensuring they are disposed of properly.
Safe Medication Disposal Event Planned in Harrison Township
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Take Back Day event will be held at the Harrison Township Substation, located at 5945 North Dixie Drive. The collection site will be open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., allowing residents several hours to drop off medications they no longer need.
The sheriff’s office described the event as “a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs.” Officials say events like this play an important role in reducing the risk of medication misuse and preventing drugs from being improperly discarded.
Residents are encouraged to bring a variety of medications to the collection site. Acceptable items include non-narcotics, narcotics, over-the-counter medications, herbals, and veterinary medications. However, there are some important restrictions on what can be accepted. Authorities say biohazard materials, illegal drugs, liquids, and needles will NOT be accepted during the event.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is held across the country to promote safe medication disposal and reduce the chance that unused drugs fall into the wrong hands. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office hopes residents will take advantage of the opportunity and safely remove unnecessary medications from their homes.
