
Dayton, Ohio – As temperatures continue to soar, the U.S. National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a Heat Advisory for Montgomery County, warning residents that the heat index values could reach the triple digits through Sunday. Officials are urging the public to take this advisory seriously and prioritize their health and safety during this stretch of dangerously high heat.
Multiple Cooling Centers Open Across the County
To help residents beat the extreme heat, several cooling centers are now open throughout Montgomery County. These centers offer a place for individuals to cool down, especially those without reliable air conditioning or who work outdoors.
In the City of Dayton, residents can visit the following locations:

Greater Dayton Recreation Center at 2021 West Third Street

Lohrey Recreation Center at 2366 Glenarm Avenue

Northwest Recreation Center at 1600 Princeton Drive
These centers operate Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In Moraine, the Payne Recreation Center at 3800 Main Street is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
In Vandalia, residents can access the Vandalia Recreation Center at 111 Stonequarry Road. Its hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Washington Township is also providing relief through the Washington Township Recreation Center at 895 Miamisburg-Centerville Road. This location is open Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
With the heat expected to intensify over the next several days, Montgomery County officials are encouraging everyone to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor activity during peak hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors, particularly the elderly and those with health conditions. Taking breaks in these cooling centers can prevent heat exhaustion and other related illnesses.
