New York – In a chilling case in New York, a 36-year-old man identified as Curtis T. has been charged with murdering his 63-year-old mother, identified as Kathleen T., after police say he stabbed her multiple times inside the home where she allowed him to live, then transported and discarded her body 6 miles away from her home.
Curtis stands accused of second-degree murder in the death of his mother, Kathleen. Authorities allege he fatally stabbed her between Jan. 27 and Jan. 29 before dumping her remains in a wooded area, approximately six miles from her residence. He was arrested at his mother’s home and later arraigned in court. According to the police department, Curtis has been formally charged with one count of murder in the second degree. Court documents allege he stabbed his mother in the face, chest, and abdomen. Investigators believe the killing occurred sometime between Jan. 27 and Jan. 29. Kathleen was last seen or heard from on Jan. 27. When family members were unable to reach her, concern quickly turned into alarm. On Jan. 29, her other son filed a missing person report with the local police.
For nearly two weeks, the search for Kathleen continued. Then, on Feb. 11, her body was discovered in a wooded area in a quiet suburban stretch roughly six miles from her home. Police later confirmed her identity and announced that her death was “criminal in nature.” The location of her body raised immediate questions. Authorities determined that her home, where Curtis was living, was the last place she had been seen alive. On Wednesday, detectives arrested him at that same residence. While investigators have not publicly detailed what led up to the stabbing, court records make clear the violence was severe, with multiple stab wounds to her upper body. The investigation remains ongoing.
While police focused on building a case, the community focused on remembering who Kathleen was. For four decades, she worked at an auto racing venue. In a tribute posted on social media, the track described her as deeply woven into its history. “Kathi was part of the fabric of our beloved track, for generations she knew families from the parents to their children and yes even their grandchildren,” the business wrote. “She’d know them by name, ask how they were doing, how the family was, she genuinely cared, it’s just who she was.”
Her family echoed that sentiment in a fundraiser created to assist with funeral expenses. “She was a loving, caring mother and an amazing friend,” the page read. “Her grandchildren meant the world to her, she was the type of person that would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it or find you one. She cared about so many people.” Kathleen would have turned 63 on Feb. 1 — just days after investigators believe she was killed.
Curtis was taken into custody and arraigned in court on the murder charge. He remains behind bars as the case proceeds through the legal system. Prosecutors have not yet disclosed a motive, and no sentencing has occurred, as the case is still in its early stages. For now, a family mourns a mother and grandmother whose life ended violently in the home she shared with her son — and whose body was left in the woods miles away. As the court process unfolds, authorities continue piecing together the events that led to the fatal stabbing and the effort to conceal it.
