Identity of homeless man killed in Springfield shooting released

Springfield, Ohio – The identity of a man who was fatally shot in Springfield early Wednesday morning has been released.

According to Springfield Police, the victim was Joshua Tackett, who was 37 years old at the time of the incident.

The fatal shooting occurred around 10:30 a.m. at 901 West Main Street, near the Hands of Mercy soup kitchen, police said.

Tackett was a frequent visitor to the Hands of Mercy soup kitchen, according to Fred Stegner, the establishment’s owner. Stegner further said that he was now living in a tent at a homeless encampment in the parking lot of the soup kitchen.
