Franklin, Ohio – A 29-year-old woman from Franklin has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to a federal charge of distributing fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid linked to thousands of overdose deaths nationwide.
According to court records, Kaylee Back admitted to providing fentanyl to an individual in Middletown in May 2023. Tragically, the recipient was found dead just two and a half hours later. A report from the Butler County Coroner’s Office later confirmed that the cause of death was fentanyl intoxication.
The plea agreement recommends a sentence of up to 186 months in prison, which is over 15 years behind bars. However, the final sentence will be determined by the Court at a later hearing and will be based on federal sentencing guidelines as well as other legal considerations.
Fentanyl continues to be a leading cause of overdose deaths in the U.S., with law enforcement and prosecutors increasingly pursuing strict penalties against those involved in its distribution. Back remains in custody as she awaits sentencing.
