Firefighters investigating a Greenville house fire that claimed the life of a woman

Greenville, Ohio – After a home fire in Greenville claimed the life of a woman early Thursday morning, firefighters began an investigation. The woman was discovered dead after the fire broke out, according to authorities.

68-year-old Brenda Marcum has been identified as the woman who was discovered dead inside a residence in Greenville’s 400 block of East Main Street.

Firefighters responded to a complaint of a fire at the East Main Street residence at 1:40 a.m. and found a room with the contents of the room on fire.

Marcum was discovered inside the room by rescue crews, and she was eventually pronounced dead. Official findings of the cause and manner of her death will not be announced until the results of the investigation by the Darke County Coroner’s Office are known. The damage is estimated at around $10,000.

The Greenville Fire Department, Greenville Police Department, and the Division of State Fire Marshall are conducting a joint investigation into the cause of the fire.
