Face masks mandatory indoors on Ohio University campuses in communities with high COVID-19 transmission

Due to the increase in new COVID-19 cases and following the example of many establishments and cities throughout the country, Ohio University officials said students would have to wear face masks when returning to the Athens campus since they are reinstating mandatory masking indoors.

Officials said Ohio University has a policy in place on reinstating the indoor mask mandate when the transmission rate of COVID-19 in the community is high.

According to the university’s mask policy, face masks are recommended when the spread of COVID-19 in the community is at a medium level, and face masks are optional when the COVID-19 spread is at a low level, so students choose whether to wear them or not.

All of the campuses of Ohio University are located in communities with high COVID-19 transmission, with the exception of the campuses located in Belmont County and Fairfield County.
