Dayton waste collection delayed two days as extreme winter weather forces schedule changes

Dayton, Ohio – Residents in the Dayton area are being asked to plan ahead this week as extreme winter weather and hazardous road conditions are forcing major changes to local trash and recycling pickup schedules.

Officials announced that waste collection services will be delayed by two days during the week of Jan. 26 for services provided by the City of Dayton Division of Waste Collection. The delay will affect three communities — Dayton, Moraine, and Jefferson Township — as crews adjust operations to protect workers and keep collection trucks off unsafe streets.

City leaders said the changes are necessary because extreme weather can make it difficult for large waste collection vehicles to safely travel through neighborhoods, especially when roads are icy or visibility is poor.

Updated trash and recycling schedule for Dayton, Moraine, and Jefferson Township

In Dayton, trash and recycling routes originally scheduled for the beginning of the week will shift later by two days:

  • Trash and recycling collection scheduled for Monday, Jan. 26, will be collected Wednesday, Jan. 28.

  • Trash and recycling collection scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 27, will be collected Thursday, Jan. 29.

  • Trash and recycling collection scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 28, will be collected Friday, Jan. 30.

  • Trash and recycling collection scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 29, will be collected Saturday, Jan. 31.

In Moraine, trash and recycling collection scheduled for Friday, Jan. 30, will occur Sunday, Feb. 1.

In Jefferson Township, trash collection scheduled for Friday, Jan. 30, will also occur Sunday, Feb. 1. Officials said that recycling and bulk waste collection scheduled for that same Friday will also be moved to Sunday, Feb. 1.

Residents are encouraged to follow the updated schedule closely so containers are not left out for extended periods during freezing weather. Officials also urged the public to remain patient as crews work through the delays and catch up safely.

With extreme winter conditions affecting multiple services across the region, city leaders are reminding residents that safety remains the priority while collection routes are adjusted to match road conditions.
