Dayton, Ohio – The Dayton Police Department is inviting adults aged 18 and older to participate in an interactive, scenario-based building search class on Thursday, November 7, 2024. The class, offered as part of the 2024 Dayton Law Enforcement Experience (DLEE), will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dayton Police Academy, located at 3237 Guthrie Road, Dayton, OH 45417.
Experience Realistic Police Training
The free class will focus on teaching participants the skills and techniques required to safely search a building, room by room, as police officers do when responding to alarms and calls for potential intruders after business hours. Participants will be paired up to take on the role of police officers and engage in hands-on practice scenarios that mimic real-life situations officers encounter. Dayton Police will also cover essential procedures for searching homes and buildings, providing participants with a rare, immersive experience into one of the most challenging tasks in law enforcement.
“Clearing a building, one room at a time, while searching for a suspect, is one of the most dangerous things an officer will do during their career,” Dayton Police explained in the class description. This realistic training experience aims to give the community insight into the techniques and complexities involved in these scenarios.
