Dayton Police Department hosts insightful free class on the prosecutor’s office

Dayton, Ohio – The Dayton Police Department has announced a unique educational opportunity for the community to delve into the judicial process. Set for October 22, 2024, from 6-8 pm, this free class offers an in-depth exploration of the workings of the prosecutor’s office and its critical role in the justice system.

Held at the Dayton Police Academy located at 3237 Guthrie Rd, Dayton, this session is part of the Dayton Law Enforcement Experience 2024. The class is designed to provide residents with a clearer understanding of how criminal cases are handled and the complexities involved that might prevent a case from going to trial.

Participants will get an insider’s view of the Montgomery County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, which is responsible for prosecuting criminal cases within the county. This includes handling cases from the initial stages before the Grand Jury, managing preliminary hearings in both Municipal and County Courts, as well as overseeing proceedings in the Common Pleas and Juvenile Courts. The office also represents the state in appeals at the Court of Appeals and the Ohio Supreme Court.

During the two-hour session, attendees will learn about the daily operations of the office and discuss the various challenges that can impede a case from reaching trial. The session aims to demystify the prosecutorial process and illustrate how the Dayton Police Department collaborates with the Prosecutor’s office to secure justice for victims.

This informative class encourages active participation, allowing attendees to ask questions and engage with the material fully. However, it is important to note that no one under the age of 18 may attend this class.
