Daycare worker caught on video intentionally shaking playhouse to “warn” 4-year-old boy not to climb, causing the boy to fall from five feet height and split his head open; arrested

Florida – In a shocking incident in Florida, a seemingly routine day at a daycare facility took a perilous turn when a worker’s attempt to discipline a child resulted in severe injury. A 30-year-old woman, identified as D. Garner, faces charges of aggravated child abuse after an incident that led to a young boy being hospitalized.

According to police reports, at approximately 11:49 a.m. on a Monday, surveillance cameras captured a 4-year-old boy climbing to the top of an outdoor playhouse. Garner, noticing the child’s actions, shook the playhouse, causing him to fall. Although the boy appeared unharmed initially, he climbed the structure again minutes later, leading to a more violent reaction from Garner.

This time, Garner “violently” shook the playhouse, resulting in the boy falling backward and flipping onto his head, landing on the concrete surface below from a height of about five feet. The distressing scene shows the boy sustaining a severe head injury, requiring immediate medical attention.

The child was rushed to the emergency room, where he received nine stitches for a deep laceration on his head. Further medical evaluations included brain scans to assess for any internal damage. Meanwhile, the incident, having been recorded by the daycare’s surveillance system, prompted swift action from law enforcement and the daycare management.

The regional manager of the daycare facility, present during the incident, terminated Garner’s employment immediately. Police responded to the daycare, gathering evidence and eyewitness accounts, which corroborated the events captured on video.

During her post-Miranda interview, Garner admitted to shaking the playhouse. She defended her actions by stating she was trying to warn the boy against climbing too high, reportedly telling him, “we keep our feet on the ground,” as justification for her approach to discipline.

Garner was arrested and taken to the county’s jail, where she was able to post bond. She faces serious charges of aggravated child abuse, reflecting the severity of the incident. Her initial court appearance saw Judge M. Rawls setting her bail at $10,000.

This case has sparked a considerable community response, highlighting the critical need for safety and appropriate handling of children in daycare settings. A representative from the daycare facility has yet to respond to requests for comment on the matter and the policies regarding handling such situations.

The local community and parents of children who attend the daycare have expressed shock and concern over the incident. The swift legal and employment actions reflect the gravity with which the authorities and the community take the safety of children.

As the legal proceedings continue, the focus remains on the recovery of the young boy and the implications this incident has for childcare practices. The case also raises significant questions about the training and qualifications of childcare workers, emphasizing the importance of proper methods for managing children’s behavior in a safe and supportive environment.

Garner, with no previous criminal convictions, now faces a legal battle that could set precedents for how childcare workers handle similar situations in the future. As this case unfolds, it serves as a stark reminder of the responsibilities and the trust placed in childcare providers and the critical importance of maintaining a safe environment for all children.
