Cuyahoga County medical examiner identified the woman found dead on Lake Erie

Cleveland, Ohio – The woman who was discovered dead on Lake Erie ice last week has been identified by the Cuyahoga County medical examiner.

According to the Cleveland Division of Police, the body of Sunny M. Kruzel, 53, of Cleveland, was discovered approximately a half mile from the Edgewater Park pier on February 8.

After more than three hours of joint effort, detectives and rescue teams were finally able to recover her body and any evidence from the ice and take it back to shore.

When EMS arrived on the scene, the person who reported discovering the body was still on the ice near the dead woman. When questioned, he told officers he had noticed the woman who was lying face down on the ice while walking around.

He was removed from the suspect’s list, according to authorities.

The exact cause of Kruzel’s death is unknown, but there are no visible signs of trauma on her body, according to authorities.
