Brook Park, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has officially approved a permit for the construction of a new building in Brook Park on land near Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport, owned by Haslam Sports Group. The decision follows an in-depth evaluation and review process conducted by a third-party aviation consultant retained by ODOT.
Independent Review Finds No Impact on Flight Operations
The permit approval comes after extensive analysis of supplemental information submitted by the City of Cleveland’s Department of Port Control and Clyde & Co., legal representatives for Haslam Sports Group. The independent consultant’s findings played a critical role in the decision. After reviewing all the data and using “sound aeronautical principles,” the consultant determined that “the proposed stadium would have no adverse effect on the safety and efficient use of the aeronautical environment.”
Based on these findings, the consultant recommended ODOT issue a permit and waive standard obstruction guidelines. ODOT Director Pamela Boratyn endorsed the recommendation and finalized the permit’s approval.
“All along our goal has been to ensure that all concerns were heard and addressed, and a resolution could be found,” said Boratyn, emphasizing the department’s commitment to collaboration and safety.
The green light from ODOT clears a significant hurdle for Haslam Sports Group as they move forward with development plans near the airport, with assurance that the structure will not interfere with current aviation operations at Cleveland-Hopkins.
