Comment period open for ODOT projects focused on safer roads, better drainage, and improved walkways

Medway, Ohio – Officials announced that the comment period is now open for several transportation projects planned by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 7 and local partners. The proposals span Clark, Auglaize, Logan, Mercer, and Montgomery counties and focus on flood mitigation, safer intersections, culvert repairs, and better pedestrian access. Residents have until September 30, 2025 to share comments on possible effects to neighborhoods, air quality, the local economy, and historic or cultural resources.

Spangler Road safety improvements, Clark County — PID 114352

The Clark County Engineer plans to reconstruct Spangler Road from Restoration Park Drive to Main Street in Medway. A key feature of the work is raising the roadway to reduce recurring flood problems. The Designer of Record has documented that the project will not cause an unacceptable rise in the base flood elevation. A floodplain Statement of Findings and related documentation are available for public review and comment, giving residents a clear look at how the design addresses high-water risks.

Culvert maintenance across three counties — PID 110166

ODOT proposes repairs to seven deteriorated culvert systems in Auglaize, Logan, and Mercer counties. These structures carry water under roadways; keeping them in good condition protects the pavement above and reduces washouts and closures after heavy rain. Work is expected to begin in Summer 2027 and take about three months. Short-term traffic impacts are likely during construction, but the long-term goal is stronger drainage and fewer emergency fixes.

US 127 at SR 119 safety improvements, Mercer County — PID 120177

To reduce crashes—especially injury crashes—ODOT’s preferred alternative at the US 127 and SR 119 intersection is a modern roundabout. Roundabouts slow vehicle speeds and cut the angle of impact, which often lowers the severity of collisions compared to traditional stop-controlled or signalized layouts. Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2027. A pre-recorded presentation explaining the proposed improvements is available on the ODOT Project Page for PID 120177, so community members can review the design details before commenting.

Kingsridge Drive sidewalks and crossings, Miami Township — PID 120184

Miami Township proposes to add sidewalk and related pedestrian improvements on Kingsridge Drive, between Springboro Pike and Lyons Ridge Road. The project includes drive modifications, including closures, to reduce vehicle–pedestrian conflicts and create a clearer walking path. The goal is simple—improve pedestrian safety along a busy corridor. Construction is expected in Spring 2027.

ODOT offers more information and project pages at the ODOT PROJECTS site (https://www.transportation.ohio.gov/projects).

Those interested in giving feedback on the projects above can submit their comments to Tricia Bishop at 937-497-6721 or via email at [email protected] by September 30, 2025.

Residents are encouraged to speak up about any potential impacts—large or small. Feedback helps refine designs, balance construction schedules with local needs, and ensure the final projects deliver safer, more reliable travel for everyone.
