City of Dayton appoints Cole Hetman to lead new economic development efforts in the downtown area

Dayton, Ohio – The City of Dayton has announced the appointment of Cole Hetman as its new development coordinator, a role aimed at advancing large-scale economic development projects and attracting new investment, particularly in the greater downtown area.

In his new position, Hetman will work closely with developers, funders, property owners, government agencies, and city staff to strengthen opportunities for growth. He will also coordinate with key community partners, including CityWide Development Corporation, the Downtown Dayton Partnership, the Dayton/Montgomery Port Authority, the Montgomery County Land Bank, and the Dayton Development Coalition.

Hetman joins Dayton after serving as economic development program coordinator for Greene County, where he managed incentive programs and focused on retaining businesses. His previous experience also includes roles in Washington Township and the City of Gahanna, Ohio, where he worked in resource management and administrative positions.

Bringing Experience and Enthusiasm to the Role

Hetman brings a strong academic and professional background to his new position. He holds a Master of Public Administration from Ohio University and a B.S. in Biology and Spanish from Heidelberg University. Additionally, he earned the Ohio Certified Economic Developer credential from the Ohio Economic Development Association, underscoring his expertise in advancing community growth.

City Manager Shelley Dickstein praised Hetman’s appointment, saying, “We are happy to welcome Cole to Team Dayton. His interpersonal and technical skills, as well as his enthusiasm for Dayton, will support the continued growth of investment and development in our region’s core.”

With Hetman on board, Dayton leaders expect continued progress in driving investment, revitalizing downtown, and building strong collaborations with public and private stakeholders to strengthen the city’s economic future.
