Cincinnati man picks cash option after winning VIP Millions top prize on ticket purchased in Liberty Township

Cincinatti, Ohio – April 1 turned out to be anything but a prank for a Cincinnati man who walked away with a $1 million prize from the Ohio Lottery. Scott, a regular player of lottery games, scored his biggest win to date after buying a VIP Millions scratch-off ticket from UDF #162 at 5000 Princeton Road in Liberty Township.

Initially, Scott didn’t even realize the full amount he had won. “I only scratched the barcode then scanned the ticket, and I thought it said I won $4,000. I flipped the ticket over and read the back because that didn’t seem right because there isn’t even a $4,000 prize. So, I scanned it again and put my readers on and saw $40,000!” he said.

Still unsure, he finally scratched the rest of the play area and was stunned to learn that he had actually hit the game’s annuitized top prize—$40,000 a year for 25 years, totaling $1 million.

Opting for the cash payout, Scott chose the $500,000 lump sum. After mandatory state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $360,000. While he hasn’t yet made plans for how to spend the winnings, he said the moment he discovered the prize nearly gave him a heart attack.

The VIP Millions game is a $50 scratch-off with an annuitized top prize of $40,000 a year for 25 years. As of April 18, 2025, there are still 21 top prizes remaining in the game.
