Huber Heights, Ohio – The corpse of a man was discovered off Chambersburg Road near St. Peter School on Monday afternoon, according to Sgt. Brian Carr of the Huber Heights Police Department. The death is being investigated as suspicious, according to Sgt. Carr.
According to early dispatch reports, police were sent to the vicinity of the 6100 block of Chambersburg Road after a mowing crew reported discovering the corpse. According to Huber Heights police, the corpse appeared to have been there for “a long period of time.”
According to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, the man was identified as Bradley Smith, 38, of Huber Heights, on Tuesday.
Aside from Smith’s corpse, Carr said that two realistic-looking BB guns were discovered nearby.
The 911 caller said to dispatchers over the phone, “When I turn around and look at his face, his face is all purple and bruised.”
The caller described the situation and what he suspected had happened, saying “it looked like he was shot here and he stumbled over… ”
Carr said that Smith’s corpse had not been subjected to any visible trauma when it was discovered, and there were no clear indicators of foul play. Investigators are awaiting the results of his autopsy, which will include toxicological testing, in order to determine how he died.
“The pastor and principal were immediately notified, as were the local authorities. Kelly Kadel, principal of St. Peter school, spoke directly with Chief Mark Lightner of the Huber Heights Police Department and she was assured that this matter poses no threat to any students or staff at the school. The school quickly informed parents of the police presence on the campus and kept students away from the area of investigation. The safety of students, teachers, and staff is of paramount importance to St. Peter Parish and the Archdiocese of Cincinnati,” the Archdiocese of Cincinnati said in a statement.
