Authorities identified the inmate who committed suicide and the guard he killed previously

Dayton, Ohio – The inmate and the guard who died recently have been identified by authorities. The inmate committed suicide after fatally shooting a guard while receiving treatment at Miami Valley hospital.

A man named Brian Booth, 30, who was a prisoner at the Montgomery County Jail and had been sick on Tuesday night, was transported to Miami Valley Hospital, according to the Major of the Dayton Police Department, Brian Johns. In the emergency room, a private security guard named Darrell Holderman, who was 78 years old, was keeping watch on Booth while he was there.

According to the police, Booth allegedly took Holderman’s gun early on Wednesday morning, shot him, and then fled the hospital after the incident. Booth, according to the authorities, used the gun to shoot himself in a neighboring parking lot. Holderman and Booth both died. According to Johns, Booth was not restrained with handcuffs at the time.

The guard, Holderman, is from Carlisle, a city located in Warren County.

Brian Booth was serving a jail sentence for violating his probation.
