Dayton, Ohio – The City of Dayton is bringing back one of its most celebrated multicultural sporting events, with organizers announcing the return of the Dayton World Soccer Games later this year. The tournament, which highlights the city’s cultural diversity and love of soccer, is scheduled for Sept. 12 at the Kettering Field Sports Complex.
City officials have opened team registration and are encouraging interested participants to sign up as soon as possible to secure representation for their chosen country.
The event is organized by the City of Dayton’s Department of Recreation in partnership with Welcome Dayton. The Dayton World Soccer Games were first launched in 2012 as a way to bring together immigrant and native-born residents through a shared interest in soccer.
Over the years, the tournament has become known as a celebration of community, diversity, and cultural pride while encouraging sportsmanship and inclusion among participants from a wide range of backgrounds.
Tournament celebrates cultures from around the world
The event will feature both youth and adult soccer competitions, giving players of different ages an opportunity to represent countries connected to their heritage or family history.
In addition to the matches, organizers are planning a variety of attractions designed for spectators and participants alike. The event will include food trucks, family-friendly activities, community resource booths, and a Parade of Nations that highlights the many cultures represented throughout the tournament.
Teams from countries around the globe are invited to participate. Organizers say community groups, cultural organizations, schools, workplaces, and neighborhood teams are all eligible to register.
To ensure the event maintains its cultural focus, each team must represent a single country and include at least one player who either immigrated from that nation or has ancestral ties to it.
Participation spots are limited. Only one team per country in each age division will be accepted, and registrations will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Return follows several-year pause
The tournament’s return marks the revival of a popular community event that had been paused for several years.
City leaders say bringing back the Dayton World Soccer Games reflects Dayton’s long-standing efforts to be a welcoming and inclusive community for residents from many different backgrounds.
Organizers hope the event will once again provide an opportunity for people to connect through sports while celebrating the traditions, cultures, and histories that help shape the city.
Teams interested in participating can register through the city’s event website. Contact Jermaine Isaac at [email protected] or 937-333-3383 for additional information.
