Lorain, Ohio – A routine trip to a gas station in Lorain turned into a life-changing moment for a local woman after she unexpectedly won a $1 million lottery prize while helping neighbors clean up storm damage.
Emily, a Lorain resident, said the incredible chain of events began when she stopped at a gas station to buy fuel for her fiancé’s chainsaw after a tree had fallen onto nearby vehicles.
According to Emily, her fiancé had been helping neighbors remove debris and clean up the damage caused by the fallen tree when she made the trip to the station.
While waiting in line inside the store, Emily noticed the man ahead of her purchasing lottery tickets.
She later explained that she suddenly felt compelled to buy some scratch-off tickets herself.
Emily listened to that instinct and purchased several tickets before returning home.
Last Ticket Changed Everything
Later that evening, Emily began scratching the tickets one by one but initially had no luck.
Then came the final ticket.
She said she matched the number “2” and quickly realized something extraordinary had happened.
Emily was stunned to discover that the ticket carried a $1 million top prize.
At first, she reportedly struggled to believe what she was seeing and continued rereading the ticket in disbelief.
After showing the ticket to her fiancé, he immediately urged her to return to the gas station to verify the prize.
Emily later said she felt relieved once the store confirmed that she was indeed the jackpot winner.
The timing of the massive win carried extra emotional meaning for her family.
Emily explained that Mother’s Day had just passed and her birthday was also approaching soon, making the prize feel even more special.
She said the winnings will help her family accomplish a major life goal they had been hoping for.
According to Emily, she and her family have wanted to move out of their apartment, and the lottery prize will now allow them to purchase their first home.
She added that her son is especially excited about having his own new room along with a yard to play in.
Emily ultimately selected the lump-sum cash payout option worth $500,000 instead of receiving annual payments over time.
After mandatory federal and state tax deductions, officials said she will receive approximately $366,250.
The winning ticket was sold at Valero #048511.
The unexpected win transformed what began as a simple errand into a moment Emily says will completely change the future for her and her family.
