Missouri – In a violent and chilling incident in Missouri, a 33‑year‑old man, identified as A. Mellow, has been charged with first‑degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, and one count of first‑degree child endangerment after fatally shooting his child’s 30‑year‑old mother, identified as H. Blizard, in broad daylight. Prosecutors allege Mellow shot Blizard “a couple of times” in the head at close range as she attempted to stop him from leaving with their 3‑month‑old baby. He is currently being held without bond, and police continue to work through the legal process as the case unfolds.
Authorities say Mellow’s actions not only resulted in the tragic death of the infant’s mother but also placed the child at risk, leading to the additional charge of child endangerment. The case highlights the devastating consequences of domestic violence and has drawn attention to the dangers faced by families caught in cycles of conflict. The horrific sequence of events began on a Saturday afternoon at the couple’s home, where Mellow and Blizard were involved in an argument over what police described as stolen coins from Mellow’s coin collection. According to the probable cause statement, the dispute was tied to Blizard’s alleged alcohol use. Mellow told law enforcement that he believed Blizard had stolen coins to buy alcohol and that he had been trying to help her with her “severe alcohol addiction.”
During the argument, Blizard reportedly decided to call her mother and leave the home with their 3‑month‑old child. Mellow, however, said he would not allow that to happen and chose to leave himself with the infant. He confessed to police that he grabbed the baby and placed them in the backseat of his vehicle. Moments later, Blizard ran to the vehicle and opened the passenger-side door in an attempt to stop Mellow from driving away. It was then, authorities say, that Mellow pulled a handgun from inside the car and shot her multiple times in the head at close range.
The probable cause statement says, “Mellow said his handgun was in the vehicle, and when [the woman] got in he shot her ‘a couple of times’ in the head.” After firing the shots, Mellow allegedly walked to the passenger side of the vehicle and opened the door, intending “to dump her out and leave the scene.” Instead, he took the child out of the vehicle and went back inside his apartment, where police would later find him. A neighbor who allegedly witnessed the shooting called police, reporting that they saw Mellow shoot Blizard at least three times before retreating into the apartment with the baby. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found Blizard “bloody” and “lifeless” outside of the car.
Responding officers reportedly heard Mellow say something that reflected the grim reality of his actions: “My son will grow up without a dad.” A sergeant then contacted Mellow by phone and persuaded him to surrender and turn the infant over to police. Mellow exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident. Police also recovered the murder weapon from his apartment. The firearm was found with a partially expended 13‑round magazine containing hollow point ammunition, and an additional spare magazine fully loaded with full metal jacket rounds was also located, according to law enforcement.
The couple’s 3‑month‑old child was transported to a local hospital for evaluation following the incident. Doctors discovered that the infant had a skull fracture, though the exact cause of that injury has not yet been determined, according to authorities. The injury has raised further concerns about the child’s exposure to dangerous situations during the incident. Mellow has been charged with first‑degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, first‑degree child endangerment. These charges reflect the gravity of the case — both the intentional killing of Blizard and the endangerment of the infant who was present throughout the attack.
As of Monday, Mellow remains jailed without bond. No court date has been set yet, but legal proceedings are expected to begin soon as the prosecution builds its case. Family members, friends, and the broader community continue to grapple with the aftermath of a senseless loss that began with a domestic dispute and ended in fatal violence. This case serves as a stark and tragic reminder of the devastating consequences that domestic conflicts can have, especially when guns are involved and children are present. Authorities say they are committed to pursuing justice for Blizard and ensuring that those responsible are held fully accountable for their actions.
