Dayton International Airport secures multimillion-dollar deal to upgrade dining and improve passenger experience

Dayton, Ohio – Dayton International Airport (DAY) is preparing for major upgrades to its concessions, announcing a five-year Master Lease and Concession Agreement with Tailwind DAY LLC. The agreement will begin January 1, 2026, and run through December 31, 2030, bringing a wave of investment and fresh dining options for travelers and visitors.

Tailwind has committed to investing $2 million in capital improvements that will transform five prominent concession concepts at the airport. These include Warped Wing, Buckeye Pie, Dunkin’ Donuts, The 1903, and Gem City Provisions.

Enhancing the Airport Experience

The planned renovations are designed to improve both the look and feel of the airport’s concessions. Travelers can expect upgraded bars and countertops, new seating arrangements, modern flooring and wall coverings, enhanced lighting, televisions for entertainment, a hot coffee bar, and convenient grab-and-go coolers. These changes are aimed at elevating the passenger experience while celebrating the vibrant spirit and hospitality of Dayton.

“This partnership with Tailwind represents a bold reimagining of our airport’s culinary landscape,” said Gil Turner, director, City of Dayton Department of Aviation. “We’re excited to offer travelers a refreshed, locally inspired experience that showcases the best of Dayton’s hospitality.”

Why Tailwind Was Selected

Tailwind was chosen unanimously from three submitted proposals. The company was recognized for its strong service concepts, competitive pricing, operational expertise, and a clear commitment to small business participation. These factors made Tailwind stand out as the ideal partner to reimagine Dayton International Airport’s food and beverage program.

The airport leadership emphasized that these concessions will not only add convenience for passengers but will also reflect Dayton’s identity, bringing local flavors alongside familiar national names. The effort is part of a broader vision to position the airport as a modern, welcoming space that goes beyond transportation.

A Collaboration for Growth

Jeffrey Switzer, president and CEO of Tailwind, said the company is eager to begin work on these improvements. “We are excited to partner with Dayton International Airport to bring local and national favorites to the terminal and support the airport’s vision for growth and innovation,” he said. “Our goal is to provide travelers with a memorable and enjoyable experience through high-quality dining options that reflect the character of the community and the familiarity of national favorites.”

By blending local dining culture with nationally known brands, the airport hopes to capture both the uniqueness of Dayton and the reliability of well-loved food and beverage options.

This agreement is expected to strengthen the airport’s connection with the community while also enhancing the overall travel experience for millions of passengers over the next five years. With Tailwind’s investment and vision, Dayton International Airport is on track to become not only a gateway for air travel but also a hub of hospitality, innovation, and local pride.
