Georgia – In a shocking case that has horrified Georgia residents and left a family reeling, a 54-year-old woman, identified as Yvette T., has been released on bond after being charged for “putting her hands” on a 1-year-old boy under her care at a church childcare facility in an assault that was caught on video. Although Yvette was released on bond, she now faces multiple felony charges for the incident that left the toddler with visible injuries. Yvette was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree child abuse and one count of first-degree aggravated battery. Authorities say the attack occurred during the boy’s first day at the church childcare facility, which is located near the Florida border.
The victim was taken to a hospital after his parents discovered his injuries—his face swollen, one eye blackened, and several cuts across his cheek. According to reports, the 1-year-old boy’s parents were informed that another child had caused the injuries using a plastic toy. But that explanation collapsed once the boy’s father secured surveillance footage showing Yvette herself inflicting the injuries. The father later described the video in powerful, restrained words, saying the footage revealed the woman “putting her hands” on the infant. He called the incident “every parent’s worst nightmare,” adding that what he and his wife witnessed in that recording was deeply disturbing and impossible to forget.
He said that questioning the daycare about what happened became an “inconvenience” for those responsible—both for Yvette and for a pastor allegedly involved in managing the facility. The father added that when he initially asked about the injuries, he was told another toddler was responsible. Only later, after seeing the security video, did the horrifying truth emerge. Yvette was promptly fired from the childcare facility following her arrest. The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning confirmed her termination and stated that their investigation remains ongoing. In their words, they plan to work “closely with law enforcement and all relevant parties to ensure a comprehensive review of the facts.”
The brutality of the assault was made worse by its timing—it happened on the very first day the victim and his 3-year-old brother were enrolled. The family placed their trust in the facility, believing it to be a safe space grounded in faith and care. That trust was broken before the day was over. “This was his FIRST DAY!!!” the father wrote in a social media post that included graphic photos of his son’s face. His outrage was clear. He emphasized that the person charged had been dishonest and that the daycare itself tried to deflect blame. “There will be more coming from this, and we will make sure nothing is ‘swept under the rug,’” he said.
The video surveillance, now central to the investigation, was reportedly obtained by the family themselves. Its contents ultimately led to Yvette’s arrest. But over the weekend, she was released on a $44,000 bond. As the investigation moves forward, questions remain—about oversight at the daycare, the facility’s response to the injuries, and whether there were other incidents previously overlooked. For now, the woman at the center of it all walks free, while a family struggles with the trauma left behind after just one day in a place they thought they could trust.
