“Little to no brain activity;” 4-month-old girl died after her father intentionally shook her with violent force only because she wouldn’t stop crying; father charged

Arkansas – In a harrowing incident that has shocked Arkansas residents, a 25-year-old father, identified as J. Krause, now faces the gravest of allegations after the tragic death of his infant daughter. Krause was arrested and initially charged with battery after his 4-month-old daughter was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Prosecutors confirmed that Krause is being held on a $15 million cash bond as he awaits further court proceedings.

The probable cause statement paints a grim picture of repeated abuse. Investigators say Krause not only shook his daughter but also poured what appeared to be cigarette ash on her tiny body—and kept photos of her covered in ash on his phone. Text messages from the child’s mother to a family member described her growing fears, revealing that Krause had thrown away cans of baby formula and showed little regard for the infant’s well-being. These actions, combined with the violent shaking, form the basis of the capital murder charge now lodged against him.

Authorities were summoned on June 24, 2025, after the child’s mother brought her to a local hospital. Medical staff immediately noted that the infant had suffered “significant head trauma,” and due to the severity of her injuries, she was airlifted to a children’s hospital. Upon arrival, a doctor overseeing her care reported that the baby had “little to no brain activity” and was in a life-threatening state. Despite all efforts by medical teams, the infant succumbed to her injuries and died on July 3. The medical findings ruled out any accidental cause, concluding that the severe head trauma and bruising were “consistent with intentional abuse that ultimately caused her death.”

While the infant was being treated, text exchanges between Krause and the child’s mother revealed a chilling disregard for the emergency. Investigators say Krause texted the mother asking for money and repeatedly requesting a “kart,” later admitting he meant a marijuana vape. These messages, sent as doctors fought to save the baby’s life, underscore prosecutors’ claims of his indifference to the child’s suffering.

The court documents highlight a disturbing pattern of neglect. Texts and witness statements show Krause repeatedly discarded feeding supplies, failed to follow safe care practices, and left the infant in distress. On at least one occasion, he admitted to shaking the child vertically on three separate instances because she would not stop crying. These admissions form an essential part of the evidence against him, leading to his capital murder charge.

Neighbors and family members are left grappling with the senseless loss of a child whose life was cut tragically short. Community leaders have called for better support systems for families struggling with infant care and mental health challenges. Local social services have offered counseling to the baby’s mother and relatives, aiming to provide some comfort in the face of overwhelming grief.

With Krause held on a $15 million bond, the case will proceed through the Arkansas court system. If convicted of capital murder, he could face life in prison without the possibility of parole or, depending on state law and jury decisions, the death penalty. No trial date has been set yet, and prosecutors continue to gather evidence, including forensic reports and witness statements, to build their case. As the legal process unfolds, the death of this 4-month-old girl stands as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of child abuse. This tragedy highlights the urgency of early intervention and community awareness to protect the most vulnerable among us.
