City of Dayton to host four weekends of neighborhood fun through Rec Your Hood summer program

Dayton, Ohio – The City of Dayton’s Department of Recreation is preparing to bring a wave of community spirit and fun to local neighborhoods through its 2025 Rec Your Hood initiative. The popular program will host four separate events throughout the summer, each designed to bring families, friends, and neighbors together for a free and lively afternoon.

Neighborhood Fun Across Dayton

Rec Your Hood is all about celebrating community. Every event offers a wide range of free activities, including games, a kid-friendly play zone, creative contests, and music curated by local DJs. Food and beverages will be provided, creating the perfect setting for residents to relax and enjoy quality time together.

As the city notes, what makes this program special is “time enjoyed with family members, neighbors, and friends.” The 2025 schedule includes stops in Old North Dayton, Five Oaks, Residence Park, and Shroyer Park—each hosting its own event from 1 to 4 p.m. on select Saturdays throughout the summer.

Here’s the full lineup of Rec Your Hood events:

  • Old North Dayton: Saturday, June 7 at Stuart Patterson Park, 238 Baltimore St.

  • Five Oaks: Saturday, July 12 at Carrick’s Corner Park, 300 Delaware Ave.

  • Residence Park: Saturday, July 26 at Residence Park, 414 Elmhurst Rd.

  • Shroyer Park: Saturday, August 9 – location to be announced.

These events are open to all ages and promise a welcoming environment for both long-time residents and newcomers alike. From active games to art challenges, Rec Your Hood is designed to spark creativity and encourage connection among community members.
