Texas – In a distressing incident in Texas, a 35-year-old man, identified as A. McDavid, is facing serious charges after allegedly causing severe injuries to his 67-year-old girlfriend, who hasn’t been publicly identified, in an act of domestic violence that shocked the local community. McDavid has been charged with multiple offenses, including injury to the elderly, assault with bodily injury with a previous conviction, continuous violence against the family, terroristic threats against a family member, and resisting arrest.
The incident occurred on February 28, when, according to an arrest affidavit, a disagreement escalated between McDavid and his girlfriend at the victim’s residence. The argument reportedly began when McDavid accused his girlfriend of talking too much. The situation took a perilous turn when he allegedly knocked a plate of hot soup from her hands as she removed it from the microwave. The soup caused third-degree injuries on her shoulder and forearm, as per police documents.
Despite her severe injuries, the victim was initially unable to seek help due to lacking personal transportation and not owning a phone. A few days after the incident, the victim managed to leave their apartment under the guise of an appointment at the Social Security office. Seizing the opportunity, she visited the police department to report the assault. The officers documented her injuries and began an investigation into the allegations.
This event appears not to be an isolated incident. During her interaction with the police, the victim revealed that she and McDavid had been in a relationship for about a year. According to the victim, McDavid moved into her apartment about a year prior and had begun physically abusing her shortly after. She claimed that McDavid had choked her in the past, but fear had prevented her from contacting the police.
This recent incident has brought to light the continuous and escalating nature of the abuse within the relationship. McDavid’s arrest record corroborates the pattern of violence; he was previously arrested in May 2024 for assault related to family violence, and that case is still pending. Further, his criminal history reveals two prior convictions for assault involving family violence, one in 2017 and another in 2021. Following his arrest, McDavid was taken to the county jail, where he remains held on a $130,000 bond. The severity of the charges reflects the serious nature of the allegations and his prior criminal record.
McDavid’s arrest on Thursday followed the victim’s brave decision to report the assault despite her challenging circumstances. Charged with multiple offenses including injury to the elderly, assault with bodily injury with a previous conviction, continuous violence against the family, resisting arrest, and making a terror threat against a family member, McDavid’s litany of charges reflect the severity of his actions. The community and law enforcement have expressed deep concern over the incident, highlighting the tragic impact of domestic violence. The case has prompted discussions on the need for greater awareness and resources to protect vulnerable individuals from such dire circumstances.
