22-year-old man died after the 25-year-old woman he was “in a dating relationship” with shot him to death as soon as he got to their shared apartment to pick up his stuff; woman arrested

Texas – In a disturbing incident in Texas, a 25-year-old woman, identified as D. Ross, has been charged with murder after she fatally shot the 22-year-old man, identified as J. Williams, with whom she had been in a relationship, as soon as he returned to their shared apartment to pick up his stuff.

The incident took place just after 9 p.m. on Sunday at the apartment complex. Police say Williams was shot in a stairwell shortly after arriving to gather his stuff following what appeared to be the end of their relationship. Initial reports were made to the sheriff’s office as a disturbance call, followed quickly by several 911 calls about gunshots. When deputies arrived at the apartment complex, they discovered Williams’ lifeless body near the stairwell. Authorities said the young man had suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was found nearby. Ross, who remained at the scene, was taken into custody without incident. She was booked into the county jail and is now being held on $150,000 bond. Sheriff E. Gonzalez confirmed the identity of both the suspect and victim in a series of social media posts, stating that Williams had returned to the apartment to retrieve his belongings when Ross opened fire. Gonzalez added that the two were “in a dating relationship.”

According to Major E. Dean of the sheriff’s office, investigators are currently working through the details of what happened that night. Dean described the investigation as “very active,” noting that several witnesses may have seen the entire event unfold. Deputies are interviewing neighbors and potential eyewitnesses to piece together the events that led up to the deadly confrontation. Authorities have not released specific information regarding the motive or whether there were previous reports of domestic disturbances involving the couple. However, the timing and nature of the incident strongly suggest that the shooting may have been connected to a conflict between the two following their breakup.

Ross has been officially charged with murder, a first-degree felony in Texas, which can carry a sentence of up to life in prison if convicted. She is currently being held at county jail and is scheduled to appear in court to face the charge. Prosecutors have not yet indicated whether they will seek the maximum sentence or if additional charges may be considered pending further investigation. No further information about Ross’s background or any criminal history has been made public. Authorities continue to stress the importance of witness cooperation as they work to establish a clear timeline and motive in what appears to be a domestic dispute turned deadly.

The killing has left both families reeling. Williams’ loved ones have not yet spoken publicly, but the emotional toll is clear in the community as they try to process how a young man’s life could end so suddenly during what should have been a simple visit to gather personal items. This tragedy highlights once again the lethal consequences of escalating relationship conflicts, especially when firearms are involved. As the legal proceedings begin, many are hoping for answers — and justice — in a case that has shocked a Houston neighborhood and devastated a young man’s family.
