19-year-old woman claimed the 28-year-old man she “thought was her friend” tried to indecently assault her so she shot him three times; charged

West Virginia – In a shocking incident in West Virginia, a 19-year-old woman, identified as C. Torres, has been charged with first-degree murder after authorities say she shot and killed a 28-year-old man, identified as A. Lamb, inside his home following a night out together. Torres now faces the serious charge in connection with the death of Lamb, who was found fatally wounded inside his residence.

Prosecutors say the charge stems from a shooting that occurred during the early morning hours of Feb. 28, after Torres and Lamb had reportedly spent the evening together at a bar along with two other people. While Torres later claimed she fired the gun because Lamb had tried to touch her inappropriately, investigators say witness statements and surveillance footage suggest the shooting followed an argument and that she returned to the home with a weapon before opening fire. Authorities say the case quickly unfolded after Torres herself contacted emergency dispatchers.

According to court documents, Torres, Lamb, and two witnesses had been together earlier that night at a local bar. At some point while they were traveling back to Lamb’s residence, an argument reportedly broke out between Torres and the victim. When the group arrived at the home, Lamb went inside the residence while Torres went to her truck parked outside.

Prosecutors say what happened next became central to the criminal investigation. Witnesses told investigators that Torres retrieved a firearm from her vehicle before returning to the house. One witness who was inside the home said Torres walked in and began firing multiple shots toward Lamb. Another witness outside the residence reported seeing Torres exit the house moments later and fire another shot before leaving the scene.

According to investigators, several witnesses also heard Torres shout a statement immediately after the shooting. “That’s what you get for messing with me.” Surveillance video from the area reportedly supports the witness accounts. Prosecutors said the footage shows Torres leaving the home, going to her truck to retrieve a gun, and then returning inside before the shooting occurred.

Officers with the police department were dispatched to the residence shortly after midnight following reports of gunfire. When officers arrived at approximately 12:10 a.m., they found Lamb slumped over on a couch inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds. Police immediately attempted to provide lifesaving aid until members of the fire department and emergency medical personnel arrived. Despite their efforts to revive him, Lamb was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators quickly began searching for the suspect.

Within minutes of the shooting, officers located Torres at a gas station, roughly one mile from the residence where the shooting occurred. Authorities said she was detained without incident around 12:19 a.m. and taken into custody. During the investigation, Torres reportedly made several statements to both dispatchers and police officers about the shooting. In a 911 call placed shortly after the incident, Torres told emergency dispatchers: “This guy who I thought was my friend tried to grope me… he tried to grope me… so I shot him three times.” Police said she made similar unsolicited statements while being transported to the police station. According to court records, Torres also told officers she had retrieved the firearm from her vehicle before returning to the house and shooting Lamb.

Torres was later transferred to the jail where she was formally charged with first-degree murder. During her first court appearance, her attorney requested that she be allowed to remain under home confinement at her mother’s residence, arguing that she was not a flight risk. However, the request was denied. Judge Wharton ruled that Torres would remain held without bond while the case proceeds.

Approximately 27 people attended the hearing, reflecting the strong community interest surrounding the case. Prosecutors continue to review evidence, including witness statements and surveillance video, as the investigation moves forward. Authorities have not yet announced when Torres will appear in court again, but the case remains active as prosecutors prepare for further proceedings. Meanwhile, the shooting has left many in the community grappling with the sudden and violent death of a 28-year-old man and the circumstances surrounding a confrontation that escalated into fatal gunfire.
