1-year-old girl hospitalized after her mother left her in the care of her 28-year-old boyfriend who beat her severely and then claimed the injuries were a result of an allergy; boyfriend arrested

Texas – In a deeply troubling child abuse case in Texas, a 28‑year‑old man, identified as H. Walker, has been charged with first‑degree felony injury to a child causing serious bodily injury after allegedly inflicting severe harm on his girlfriend’s 1‑year‑old daughter. Walker is currently being held in the county correctional facility on a $1 million bond, as authorities describe the incident as an extremely violent assault on a vulnerable child left in his care.

Walker’s arrest followed reports to police and medical staff on December 16, 2025, when the injured infant was brought to a hospital in critical condition. The baby was unresponsive and required intubation. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later airlifted to a specialized children’s hospital. Medical examinations revealed extensive trauma, including facial fractures, internal bleeding, and damage to her liver—injuries consistent with significant force and not typical of accidental causes.

According to a detailed arrest affidavit, the child’s mother had left the home just before 10 a.m. that day to seek treatment for pregnancy‑related issues, leaving her daughter and a 3‑year‑old sibling in Walker’s supervision. About three hours later, the mother began receiving concerning messages from Walker, which led her to send other family members to check on the children. Those relatives arrived to find a disturbing scene. The 1‑year‑old girl was struggling to breathe, largely unresponsive, and had a noticeably swollen eye with dark marks on her face and body. Witnesses reported seeing Walker apply a frozen orange juice can to the baby’s face in what appeared to be an attempt to reduce the swelling. However, the injuries were far more severe than what such treatment could address.

When officers arrived at the home, they immediately noticed a strong smell of bleach and wet floors, suggesting someone had tried to clean up what may have been blood. Inside, the baby showed signs of brutal abuse: extensive bruising to the chest and abdomen, dried blood around one ear, burn‑like marks on her inner thighs and left arm, and various healing wounds that hinted at prior harm. Initially, Walker denied being present during the period the injuries occurred. He first claimed a babysitter was responsible, then shifted blame to the child’s mother, even going so far as to deny owning a cellphone. Investigators later found his phone in the home, with messages showing he had communicated with the child’s mother about the infant’s condition that morning.

Eventually, Walker admitted that he had been alone with the child when the injuries occurred, but he insisted the swelling was the result of an allergy. Medical staff strongly rejected this explanation. Clinicians told detectives that the combination of injuries—including a Grade 5 liver laceration, bleeding around the adrenal gland, and fractured facial bones—were “not accidental” and could not be attributed to allergies, minor falls, or self‑inflicted harm by the child.

As the investigation progressed, Walker repeatedly changed his story. He ultimately failed a polygraph test, and when questioned about the result, he once again attempted to blame the child’s mother—even though she had passed her own polygraph and cooperated fully with authorities. Detectives determined that the timeframe in which the child was injured aligned with the hours her mother was at the doctor, leaving Walker as the sole adult present. The pattern and placement of the bruises, along with the serious internal injuries, strongly indicated deliberate harm rather than neglect or accidental injury.

Authorities also noted that Walker’s actions after the assault—applying a frozen juice can, attempting to clean with bleach, and providing inconsistent accounts to investigators—suggested efforts to conceal the truth. Walker was taken into custody by Special Crimes Detectives on December 18 and transported to the county correctional facility. If convicted, he could face a life sentence. The young victim remains in critical condition under intensive medical care. The case has left the community shocked and mourning, highlighting how rapidly trust can be broken and how profoundly children can suffer when placed in unsafe hands.
